Some Songs – B. Wurtz
Randi and her husband, music producer, Harlan met revered visual artist B. Wurtz when he had a survey exhibition at the ICA LA in 2018. B. told Harlan he had been experimenting with playing music. He studied classical piano as a child and played through high school at which point he decided to dedicate 100% to visual arts leaving his music behind. Not more than 5 years ago he started writing songs. He asked Harlan if he would listen to some of his garage band recordings and well, they are amazing. Long story short, Harlan played the music for some of the musicians he works with – Sunny War, Micah Nelson (Particle Kid) to name a few and they all wanted in on Harlan’s idea of putting a band together to record an album.
B. had seen a music video Randi made and asked her if she would try to make one for him. After seeing that first one, he asked her if she would be interested in making one for each of the 14 songs that he, Harlan, and the band recorded. What resulted is the visual companion to album entitled Some Songs. Watch videos here
